fence ideas

I looked at a lot of craftsman fences for inspiration on our new fence. Generally, I’d like something open and simple, and I’d like an open lattice-like part at the top. There are some really beautiful fences out there, some far more builderly than others. Jason and I discussed the reality of our ability to make a nice fence, and decided we’d like it to be more of a picket-style construction rather than rails & stiles, etc. After drawing some samples and looking for a good example of it, I found this photo, which pretty much has everything I’d like in the construction style that makes it easy to build. We’re not going to do any sort of arch or pergola, just post caps at the fence height.

The main thing we won’t be doing is sinking posts, but some lumber research turned up pre-cut redwood at 0.625″ x 5.375″ at varied lengths. This will be perfect for creating 6″ x 6″ box enclosures for around the posts. I’m looking at post caps, mainly I like these 2.
